Press Release 6/10/09

From Lorie Young, Director of The Mission, 22098 Loop 494, New Caney, Texas

Lorie Young, Director of The Mission in New Caney announced at the annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon on June 10, 2009 her retirement in September, 2010 after serving as its original Director for 15 1/2 years. The Mission began in 1994 as Mission Northeast, a church food pantry at Forest Cove Baptist Church, and has grown into a multi-service agency that addresses its client’s physical, emotional and spiritual needs.  In the last 14 years, The Mission has provided services to more than 278,000 local individuals.

Lorie and The Mission Board of Directors are proud to announce that, taking over the reins as the new Director will be Pam Dickson.  Pam will officially begin at The Mission 7/1/09.   Among Pam’s other distinctions and awards such as 2004 Haden E. McKay Citizen of the Year Award, she also received the Joe Boyd Community Service Award from The Mission at last year’s annual fundraiser in September.

During the next year Lorie and Pam will serve shoulder to shoulder as Director and Co-Director.  The Board of Directors of The Mission, through an exhaustive application and interview process felt God’s leading in hiring Pam.  Lorie and Pam have been community partners for many years.  Lorie expressed her confidence in Pam to lead The Mission into the years ahead and will have a great peace in leaving The Mission in such capable hands.

Lorie will be moving to Tyler in 2010 with her husband Dave.
