The Mission and Kingwood College are proud to announce a partnership addressing job training needs in East Montgomery County. A recent meeting with Ike Williams, Director of Business, Industry and Contract Training with Kingwood College, Lorie Young, Director of The Mission and Brenda Kirk, CEO of Vision Weavers Consulting brought to the forefront the need to create a job training center where Mission clients and families in need from the area could attend classes and receive certificates or licenses. Ideas for job training classes that would turn around students quickly into the job market are cosmetology, computer skills, car mechanics, welding, secretarial and CNA (Certified Nurses Aid).
It was a common belief at the meeting that CNA would be a good class to start with, keeping the class size to between 8 and 10 students. The Mission began accepting class applications in May. The Mission will pay for class fees, books, uniforms, state tests and certificates. Donations and grants are welcome for future classes. The Mission is a 501(c) 3 non profit organization and all donations are tax deductible.
The Mission and Kingwood College have enjoyed a long successful relationship working together for the last 6 years in a Kingwood College taught GED class at The Mission helping hundreds of adult students get their GED or improve their skills. This partnership includes Region VI Adult Education Service Center. Some students will not attend college even after receiving their GED. The job training classes will enable them to move from GED into the training classes and on to worthwhile employment.
Pictured is the pilot CNA class beginning on June 19 and finishing around the first week of August, 2007. These girls are so excited and can see that their lives of just getting by are almost over. They all have awesome life stories. These are families we help all year long. In August, Jack Barnes, President of The Mission Board of Directors will teach classes on job interviewing, writing resumes, dress codes, self esteem and God’s role in a successful life.
Lone Star Family Health Center in Conroe, Lori Wilson R.N., Nurse Manager very generously came to The Mission and administered the first of three Hepatitis B shots and did the TB PPD test all at a much reduced price.
