2008 is half over. The information below is for the first six months of 2008. The Mission is happy to share with you how your generosity has begun to break the generational cycle of poverty in our area. Giving comes in many ways….prayer, encouragement, financial, volunteers, food, clothing, housewares, home visits, school supplies, lunches, fundraiser support, health exams, education, job training, job placement, senior meal delivery, Thanksgiving, Christmas, child’s mentors, family assessments, physical, emotional and spiritual support…..you are somewhere in those descriptions. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!
- 30 asking Jesus Christ into their heart
- 38 requesting home visits for Finding Home
- 304 new families visiting The Mission for first time
- $ 6,125 spent on food purchases for 7,568 people
- $ 7,010 spent on benevolent and prescription assistance for 108 Seniors and Disabled
- 30 meals a month delivered to Senior Adults and shut ins by 7 teams, funded by a grant from Montgomery County Community Development
- Facility improvement funding came from Second Baptist Church to add concrete connecting the 2 bus barns to expand usable space for Mission: Possible! And other ministries.
- The Mission receives a 3 year grant from Montgomery County United Way to fund job training, financial literacy, life skills, etc. to create independence from The Mission and promote whole families.
- 15 GED and Adult Basic Education (ABE) students completing first level-New class begins 7/29
- 12 CNA (Certified Nurses Aid) students through Lone Star College passing state licensing (former clients) (4th class starting in the Fall)
- 10 starting Welding through Lone Star College (former clients)l (2nd class starting in the Fall)
- $ 17,262 spent to support adult education and job training
- Care Ministry began in March with interviews conducted by Mission Care Partners with each family to identify needs for job training, small groups, life skills, education, Bible studies, support groups.
- July 30-First 40 client families selected for Care Ministry
- August 26-October 14-Financial Literacy for first 40 client families
- Followed on October 21-November 11 by “Health and Nutrition-Inside and Out”
- December 2-16-Emotional classes (specific topics to be determined)
- 38 students, K-4th grade, completing 6 weeks of Mission: Possible! And receiving school supplies, shoe and clothing vouchers, awards, graduation ceremony and savings bonds from Guaranty Federal Savings. 3 students asked Jesus into their heart this summer! Praise God!
- Mission: Possible! Teaching provided by: CHATA Home Schoolers, The Vineyard, National Charity League Kingwood and Livable Forest, Porter First Baptist, Kingwood Bible, Bethel Baptist and Mission Staff. Laptop computers were donated by Administaff, Inc.
- Feed My Lambs preparing lunch every day during MP: Kingwood Women’s Club, Kingwood United Methodist, Kingwood Bible, St.John of the Cross, Kingwood Christian, Strawbridge United Methodist, Good Shepherd Episcopal, National Charity League Kingwood and Livable Forest.
- Spanish Days Only- 2 days a month began in April, 2008, dedicated to identifying Spanish needs and starting support groups and classes for them. Spanish speaking volunteers are from local Spanish churches or Bible study groups
